IMMIGRATION/REFUGEE (Began 1985)
The Immigration/Refugee Department assist and guide clients with the preparation of family based visa petitions to establish legal permanent resident status, naturalization and citizenship, renewal of permanent resident cards, and temporary protected status for Central Americans. In addition, Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) assistance is available to victims of abuse.
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops contracts with Catholic Charities of Corpus Christi to assist in the resettlement phase of the incoming refugees. Catholic Charities serves as a liaison while the refugee is in the waiting period to be admitted in the USA, and upon arrival, Catholic Charities, assists with relocation, housing, food, clothing, medical/dental attention, employment assistance, transportation, schooling, and other needs.
Assistance is offered to all nationalities. Staff is affluent in both English and Spanish. The initial fee is $20.00 for all consultations. Fees are waived when clients cannot pay.
Established in 1985, the Immigration & Refugee Department was one of the first non-profit organizations in the region to provide legal services and representation to the immigrant community. The Department is accredited by the Board of Immigration Appeals to provide a broad range of immigration services to immigrants and their families throughout all 12 counties within the Diocese of Corpus Christi.
Since its inception, the mission of the Immigration & Refugee Department has been to provide the highest quality legal services, education, and representation to the region's immigrant community and to provide these services with compassion and in a manner that ensures and respects the dignity of every person.
